Yes I am back, hopefully for awhile. Anyways, I feel I should give you an update on shows I’ve been watching and how I feel about them.
Mondays
Chuck: The show has been on a roll lately with the best episode of the season easily being Chuck vs. The Santa Claus. The show hasn’t lost momentum in terms of creativity since coming back from the long hiatus. With Chevy Chase and Scott Bakula coming in for long arcs in the next couple episodes, it should be entertaining to say the least.
Heroes: It’s been awful, simply awful. There is not one redeeming quality about Volume 4. Rumor has it the next two episodes are penned by Fuller and much better but I just don’t see the show finding its footing and honestly, if it was canceled, I wouldn’t miss it.
Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother: I group these two together because they have been about the same. Consistently funny. I don’t ask them to go deep because they’re not those kinds of shows. They are still a great way to continue to kill an hour. Neil Patrick Harris and Jim Parsons deserve love for their hilarious portrayals of Barney and Sheldon.
House: The show really continues to be rather bland this season. I miss Chase and Cameron and find Taub to be a very boring character that I want gone. Wilson has not been given enough to do this season after his amazing arc from last season. I miss the PI from the beginning of the season. I feel like the show is starting to run out of gas.
24: It is back. I don’t really know what else to say other than that. It’s great to have the show back after a horrible season 6 and Renee has been a great addition to the show and am happy to hear she’ll be returning next season. I’d rate the seasons like this: 5>2>4>1>3>6. Season 7 probably falls somewhere between 4 and 3.
Tuesdays
Fringe: I gave up on the show on about episode 4 or 5 but was talked back into checking it out. I’m happy I did. The show has defiantly found its footing. The show works best when it focuses on its mythology and not its freak of the week. Hopefully it continues.
Nip/Tuck: Fucking awful this season and I won’t be back next season. I skipped the season finale.
Wednesdays
Scrubs: It’s great to have the show back. After waiting so long for the final season I am happy to say it hasn’t disappointed. It has an increased focus on the interns which I like and something that I felt should have been done seasons ago. They have also brought the funny back which is nice.
Lost: I don’t really know what to say about this season. I’ve enjoyed it and have a great time watching it but something feels missing this season after what was an amazing season 4. Season 5 almost just feels like a build up to season 6 which I kind of understand I suppose. Hopefully with half the season over it will start to kick up the story telling.
Lie to Me: Is it repetitive? Yes. Is it a bit predictable? Yes. Is it a blast to watch Tim Roth every week? Fuck Yes. Personally I hate procedurals and don’t often watch them but this has been a fun show from start to finish and I really enjoy it.
Thursday
Smallville: I’ve always enjoyed the show but thought about giving up after season 7. I’m happy I didn’t. Season 8 is kicking on all cylinders and is the best season since season 5. They still continue to ruin the Jimmy character though. Having Lex Luthor gone and bringing in the new villain of Doomsday is also very welcomed.
Survivor: Odd that I watch this I know but this season has been very fun. This is the first season I’ve watched in a few years and I’m glad I picked back up on it. It’s always a great way to spend an hour. Hopefully JT wins.
The Office: Honestly, the show has been rather average ever since Amy Ryan’s Holly Flax left. Following a decent Super Bowl episode we were treated with a two part episode that was just horrendous. Luckily the show saw its best episode of the season this past Thursday thanks to new boss Charles Minor played by the always awesome Idris Elba.
Bones: Basically the same as Lie to Me. A procedural that doesn’t take itself too seriously and thanks to the chemistry of its leads makes it a really good time.
Hell’s Kitchen: I can’t deny it, it’s one of my favorite shows on TV. Gordon Ramsey is hilarious and it is easily one of the best ways to spend an hour of your life.
Fridays
Dollhouse: Been a very average season until this past week’s episode. This past episode felt like a second pilot and I hope is the path the series will take. The whole doll of the week angle was boring as shit and this past episode really turned everything on its head and focused on the mythology. Tahmoh Penikett is the best part of the show.
Battlestar Galactica: I’m not going to lie, I’m happy the show is over. I loved the show for 2 seasons and then hated the show for 2 seasons. The finale was solid but nothing great. Out of 2 and ½ hours I felt like only 50 minutes were actually needed. I also felt the ending took too many characters out of play and didn’t make sense.
Party Down: I checked it out because of Rob Thomas and I must admit, I was very happy. The show was very funny and just plain fun to watch. It’ll be interesting to see how long the gimmick can last though.
Sundays
Kings: I only watched the premiere so far but I really enjoyed it. The whole scope of the show amazes me. Ian McShane is fucking badass.
Family Guy: Last few episodes have been awful. The show has become very inconsistent but I’ll keep watching for right now.
Eastbound & Down: Very inconsistent show. Parts of it were some of the funniest stuff on TV while other parts of it were just plain horrible. I don’t expect to see another season.
